Swania Annual Report 2020

Swania Commitments

Take actions to eliminate problematic or unnecessary plastic packaging by 2025 :

Today, the packaging of the consumer maintenance products market is essentially plastic. In order to reduce our consumption of plastic, we have already conditioned some of our products in cardboard packaging during 2018. In 2019, all our references for dishwasher tablets have been launched with cardboard packaging, which saved almost 9 tonnes of unnecessary plastic. Many other innovative products such as our laundry kit “do it yourself” or our new “Bicarbonate de soude” were launched in totally cardboard packaging. In addition, for 2020, as we announced in our previous report, we have successfully resolved our main challenge on recyclability : our eco-refills will therefore all be recyclable in 2020. Our next step to reach the 100% of reusable or recyclable plastic packaging in 2025, is to find a recyclable solution for our wipes flowpacks.

Take actions to move from single-use toward reuse models where revelant by 2025 :

Since we do not work in the food or personal hygiene market, we do not have many single-use products in our portfolio. As we announced last year, our impregnated wipes and mops, so much loved by consumers, are now plastic free. These much loved by consumers products are now made of 100% viscose or cellulose (fibers derived from wood) and FSC certified (fibers derived from sustainably managed forests) .

Finally, for all of our plastic plumos intended to capture dust, these products are no longer produced, as part of our approach of “ever more ecology” in the broad sense of the term: products healthy for the environment (always less plastic and toxic materials for the environment) and consumer education for more ecological gestures. Our long term goal for 2025, is to have no more single-use products inducing plastic waste.

100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025 :

Today, 92% of our packaging are either reusable (household sprays to recharge with their refills, laundry bottles to be refilled with their doypacks, or else pump dishwashing liquid with its doypack) or recyclable (all except our doypacks and our flowpacks). In order to evolve even more in our fight against plastic, we have been one of the first company to engage in an environmental initiative called LOOP. Since October 2019, consumers can find their favorite products on the website of LOOP in zero waste thanks to a deposit system and to packaging free of all plastic (aluminium packaging for example). Finally, to achieve 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025, we rely on the completion of our research for recyclable flowpacks (now that we have found solutions to develop recyclable doypacks).

2025 post-consumer recycled content target across all plastic packaging used : 50%

Today, we use only 9% recycled plastic in our packaging. In 2020, thanks to the incorporation of 100% recycled PET in our new hand dishwashing liquids and especially in our best reference (Basilic-Thym hand dishwashing), this rate will increase to 25%. In order to reach 50% by 2025, we plan to incorporate recycled plastic into our reusable sprays, our floor cleaners and our flowpacks. Finally, as soon as the recycled PP will be more available and less restrictive at the marketing level (smell and visual of the packaging), we will include 50% of recycled PE in all our laundry bottles, which account for no less than 30% of our turnover.
